* Flat Water and Hot Fishing!Posted on July 26th, 2013 by . Click Here to get this RSS Feed My dad was just here for the last few days of fishing with his long time friends Joe, Bob, and Frank…a.k.a. “The Old Grinders”. We also had the Tarvin and LaBarge groups aboard the Sea Hunt and Makai and all the groups caught plenty of fish and had a great time. Here’s the “Old Grinders” with their last days catch and Dad managed to get Ava to hold still for a few seconds for this photo. Great times with these guys! Dad scored this nice 43 inch halibut on one of the 16 ounce pipe jigs that he builds for me. On the same pipe jig he also caught an awesome 43 inch ling cod. The pipe jigs work! The Sea Hunt was having similar results nearby as Jim Henderson cranked up this big ling cod that went 46 inches and quickly went back in the water. Not after some shenanigans though : ) Then the boys dropped back down and tripled up on 100 plus pound halibut that all went back to the ocean floor. How they managed to keep from tangling the lines up I’ll never know. Quite the catch by the LaBarge gang over on Capt. Kims boat. Kind of sounding like a broken record now, but once again I’ve got to say that fishing remains unbelievable here in Craig, Alaska this summer. Fishing has been off the hook for silvers, kings, halibut, and bottomfish here the past few days. We’ve got a little wind in the forecast for the next group and I’m hopeful we can still roam around like we have been lately. Either way I’m confident that we’ll find fish. It’s been one of those summers! Rob Endsley |
