Sample Itinerary

Day One – Afternoon Arrival

Arrive in Ketchikan on Alaska Airlines or Delta Airlines prior to your 4:00 p.m. departure on Island Air Express. If you need to leave on the 6:00 p.m. Island Air Express flight please let us know well in advance so we can check on availability.

Pick up your bags and check in with Island Air Express located in the Ketchikan terminal just a short walk from baggage claim. Island Air allows one checked bag under 40 pounds as well as a carry-on.

The picturesque flight from Ketchikan to Klawock airport on Prince of Wales Island will take between 25 and 40 minutes. We’ll be waiting for you at Klawock Airport when you land and it’s a short 10 mile drive from there to Craig. Along the way we’ll be happy to stop at the grocery store, liquor store, or the pharmacy to pick up any supplies you may need for your stay.

Once in Craig we’ll get you checked into your lodging and go over the details of your rental vehicle, fishing licenses, tell you about the Craig/Klawock Salmon Derby, and of course update you on the fishing.

Day Two – Time to Go Fishing!

A full day of fishing lies ahead. The boats usually depart promptly at 6:00 a.m. and we suggest getting to the dock 15 to 30 minutes early to pick out your rain gear and boots and get your fishing licenses logged in with the boat you’re fishing on. On a typical day the boats will leave the dock at 6:00 a.m. and get back to the dock between 3:00 and 4:30 in the afternoon. That’s the general timeline but we may choose to leave the dock early depending on the fishing and weather and of course on some days we may get in a little early. Your boat will have a full lunch onboard including pop, water, and coffee as well as pastries for the ride out to the fishing grounds.

Once back to the dock your fish will be filleted, vacuum packed, and they will go into the freezer. You’re now welcome to head back to the Guest House, bed and breakfast, or hotel to relax and get ready for dinner.

Day Three

This is your second full day of fishing.

Day Four

This is your third and last full day of fishing.

Day 5 – Departure Day

The majority of our guests are on the 10:00 a.m. flight off the island on Island Air Express. Pickup for this flight is at 9:00 a.m. on your departing day. Be sure to have your bags packed and don’t forget to do a last minute check around your room for phone chargers, laptop chargers, reading glasses, etc..

The flight back to Ketchikan from Klawock Airport is approximately 25 to 40 minutes long. When you land in Ketchikan be sure to collect your luggage AND your fish boxes. Your fish boxes are labeled with your name, address, phone number, and departing flight number.

If you’re overnighting in Ketchikan your fish will go into the freezer at the airport and Aero Services will pull it out prior to your flight the next morning. Be sure to double-check all of this with Island Air Express and Aero Services before heading to Ketchikan for the night.
