Boats and Equipment

The boats in our Alaska charter fishing fleet are all  26 to 28-foot North River Offshore’s equipped with the latest electronics and safety equipment. Onboard you’ll find state of the art GPS/Sonar/Chartplotters from Lowrance and Simrad that are updated frequently to keep up with the latest technology. Large screens on the dash and aft deck show the captain and guests exactly what is going on below the boat when we’re out fishing. They all have heated and enclosed cabin’s for the ride to and from the fishing grounds and a large deck that provides plenty of room for fighting multiple fish. Each vessel is equipped with a porta-potti in the cabin. 

Fishing Equipment

On our charters we have the versatility of either mooching or trolling for salmon. Mooching is our preferred technique though and we use line counter reels and high quality rods with enough sensitivity to detect the most subtle bite and enough back bone to land trophy class fish. The reels are spooled with 30 pound mainline and we typically use 4 to 5 ounce mooching sinkers and 40 pound test leaders with the sharpest 4/0 hooks money can buy when we’re mooching.

When a school of salmon shows up on the sonar the line counter reels allow us to drop baits to the precise depth of the salmon. A cut plug or whole herring is the preferred bait for mooching. Mooching is a hands-on technique and when the bites on the action can be fast!

When the salmon are scattered, however, it’s simply impossible to beat the effectiveness of trolling. Each boat is rigged with the latest computerized Cannon downriggers that allow your captain to present lures or bait to the exact depth the salmon are holding at. The downriggers allow us to cover vast amounts of water in search of salmon. We are a small Alaska charter fishing company and because of that we’re able to offer the adaptability of downriggers on our Alaska salmon fishing charters.
